Sulfur Mines

Description

The Sulfur Mines are located within the Sierra Negra Volcano, on of thee most active and large volcanoes in the Galapagos Islands. This site is located approximately 20km from Puerto Villamil and is part of the Galapagos National Park. In this area you can see how the sulfur emanates naturally from the soil, creating a yellow, smoking landscape with a characteristic smell.

On the return trip we visited the giant tortoise rearing center and flamingos lagoon.

  • Wear light clothes, hat, water and sunscreen.
  • Wear comfortable shoes to walk on rocky terrain.
  • Do not pick up or touch sulfur or rocks.
  • Keep the area clean and respect the park rules
